The Heat of the Fireman: And Other Stories

"Compassion, curiosity and the spice of suspense shape the stories contained in this compelling collection that explores the subtle tensions of relationship. Ash captures the risks, and tenderness, in tales of sibling rivalries, of friends jousting for roles in a theater production, of an elderly man facing the past when a mysterious young girl knocks on his door." (Carolyn Kortge, author of The Spirited Walker)

"After penning three captivating memoirs about her solo camping adventures, and another about growing up in Eugene, Oregon, Lynn Ash's venture into fiction has produced an equally engaging collection of short stories. The Heat of the Fireman offers tales ranging from tensions between siblings following the death of their mother in 'Ludie's Ring, ' to a humorous look at life in a retirement home in 'The Buzz at Twilight Abbey, ' to the shared anxieties of friends auditioning for roles in a musical in 'No Talent.' If you've enjoyed Ash's memoirs, you owe yourself the pleasure of her fiction." (Dan Armstrong, author of The Eyes of Archimedes trilogy)
