Following Jesus Together: Being the Church

Around 2,000 years ago, events transpired that re-shaped world history. After modeling an exemplary life of love and holiness, Jesus was crucified through a collaborative effort of the religious and political powers of his day. Three days later, he resurrected. Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus was revealed as the long-anticipated Savior, Redeemer, and King over all Creation. But before Jesus' victory is fully implemented throughout God's Creation, all humanity is to hear the good news and to be invited to embrace Jesus as Savior and King, thereby taking their places in his eternal Kingdom.

Jesus' final instructions for the time between his ascension and his return mobilized his existing disciples (even the doubters) to make disciples of everyone else (Matthew 28:16-20). This disciple-making is to happen "on the go" and it is all about learning to obey Jesus and abide with him. Such new disciples are not to be simply discovered, informed, or inspired. Consistent with Jesus' teaching and example, disciples must be made.

Following Jesus Together (FJT) is a 20-week initiation into a sustainable and reproducible life of disciple-making. It brings the life and teaching of Jesus into focus through five distinct lenses that comprise the five parts of FJT:

Getting Our Story Straight
The Gospel Experience
The With-God Life
The Great Commandments
The Great Commissions

Throughout FJT, the contents of the book are coupled with guided disciple-making practices for both individuals and groups. These practices and rhythms of discipleship, initiated over the 20-weeks of FJT, may continue indefinitely using only the Bible as a resource. They may also be reproduced in the lives of any followers of King Jesus whether or not individuals or groups choose to use FJT as an initial training resource.
