The Memoir of Joey Abo A Vietnam War-Era Seabee Veteran

Like hundreds of Filipinos in the 1960s, I entered the United States after being recruited into the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion: I was and will always be a Seabee at heart. I am a proud Vietnam War veteran, a cancer survivor and have held a marriage and family of six together with every bit of strength and mental energy I was blessed with. I can promise you - I did not do this on my own.

It's been such an incredible journey. We start from the beginning, as I navigated through my childhood as a simple farm boy in a remote area of the Philippines. My world changed when I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. I started as a Steward serving officers and retired as a lead Field Electrician. In this time and thereafter, I made many friends and have been able to explore the world.

My life could have gone any direction. There are no promises. No straight paths. But all of it aligned and I am able to share my story of growth with you today.
