Farzan Mahdavi-Ardabili was born in Tehran, Iran, in November 1961. He attended Saint-Louis, a French Catholic school, in Tehran, where he was introduced to the stories of Jules Verne, which ignited his interest in the shape of the future. His life and the lives of those around him were thrown into disarray with the tumultuous events of the Revolution of 1979. In 1983, a few years into the devastating Iran-Iraq War, he was fortunate to move to the United States, where he studied computer science. Unable to finish his studies, he returned to Iran for a few difficult years before leaving his home country again and migrating to Vancouver in 1996. Two years later, tormented by the events of his life and the state of the world, he started to write Mission for the Earth as a way to come to terms with existing realities. Mission for the Earth combines elements of science fiction with factual events of his life.
