An Introduction to the Teachings of Franz Bardon

To understand someone, you need to understand the way in which they look at the world. Much of Bardon's writings provide glimpses of the undercurrent of his views on reality and we would all agree that these views do not align to our modern concepts of reality.

The subjective views of Bardon is however the key to understanding his teachings. Although Bardon placed much emphasis on practice, his books always start by setting the theoretical context. One should therefore accept that theory is the basis of the practice of magic. Without understanding the basis for the practices, success at execution is unlikely.

Bardon had a unique perspective on what humans are and how the world works:

  • Traditionally, we say humans have a soul. Bardon flips this idea around. Bardon says we ARE souls. We do not just possess a soul, we are fundamentally a soul.
  • We also have bodies. But these bodies are like tools or vehicles we use to interact with the world.
  • There are multiple worlds, not separate in space. Imagine different layers of existence all around us, invisible to most. These worlds are made of matter, but at different densities. Think of it like thin air, water, and solid rock - all matter, just packed differently.
  • We simultaneously exist in several of these worlds. But we are usually only aware of the most physical one, like a fish unaware of the water around it. Sometimes, in dreams or trances, we catch glimpses of other worlds. Like a fish jumping out of the water for a moment.
  • Death is like taking off a coat. We shed our physical body, but the soul (the real us) continues existing in a higher world. Bardon claims that this is not speculation, but based on his observation and experience. He believed that there are ways to perceive these other worlds and the nature of our soul.
