Who is Aunt Lorna? Why hasn't she been around? Join Effie Johnson as she discovers the answers to these questions and many others as she navigates through the South as a black girl in the 1940s. Just thirteen years old, she has to see the raging hate that people have for others. She even sees some of it firsthand.

Despite her being a child, Effie learns a lot about jealousy, hate, love, and (of course) prejudice. She eventually can see why everyone must treat each other with respect. So, why does it take death and flames for some adults to settle their differences, whether they're based on race or plain disagreement.

Respect is deserved by everyone, regardless of where we've come from.
