The flames of war consume Osiria as one man hungers for the birth of a new empire. Kings fall, cities crumble, and the might of the Hostellian army sweeps over the land to unite the other kingdoms under one flag. One by one, King Matticus lays waste to his cousins' lands in a hasty search for the Sword of Kings. Madness infests his every thought as more blood covers his hands. Caedus Redstone has disappeared with Osiris's great blade, driving Matticus further down the path of desperation.

Prince Lucien battles the grief that plagues him after the death of a loved one, and he must pull himself together in this time of need. The gods have chosen him as the savior of Osiria as they bless him with a divine vision that might lead to the only thing that can stop Matticus in his rampage. Allies of the Black Legion band together and embark on a quest to do the impossible: bring back the dead.
