Time Ahead: Investor's Guide to Prosperity and Impact

The title, Time Ahead, refers to the critical importance of time in every investment decision. Despite the fact that it is life's most precious asset, it is frequently overlooked by investors. Time Ahead is a homonym that refers to two of the most important facets of capitalism: having a lead or advantage and a future perspective.

The book was written in four distinct but interrelated sections. Sections One and Two focus on finance and investing. Section Three is all about people, good and bad. The final Section is about looking ahead to what I believe is an exciting and opportunistic future.

In Section One, you will learn when to take risks. Successful investors win through preparation, readiness and the ability to identify opportunities while avoiding blunders. These are common traits among the best and brightest in any field.

Section Two details the fundamentals of investing, the basics that you must get right if you are to succeed. I see the investing public in one of two ways: passive investors content to accept average returns, believing they are avoiding risk, and investors that expect to achieve more, enjoy greater prosperity and make an impact with their money.

The element of time is again vital because every investment decision is magnified over time. Simply making consistently sound small decisions has a huge financial impact that becomes increasingly more meaningful over time, thanks to how compound interest works. The opposite is also true. The compounded effect of making even small mistakes or missing opportunities is magnified over an extended period. This is especially true in bear markets.

The third section covers a combination of humorous and deadly serious subjects. Lemmings refer to the impressionable financial naifs that fall prey to the liars and scammers. Wall Street pigs feast on these unsuspecting innocents.

The Liars are a small but toxic group of financial advisors that prey on their clients, ranging from brokerage pigs who misrepresent investment performance or charge outlandish fees to the outright fraudsters that operate phone, sports betting, pump and dump and other scams.

The Loopholes are the legal maneuvers the wealthy take advantage of to maintain and grow their wealth and leave a memorable legacy. The Free Lunches are the sophisticated strategies they use, such as bond ladders and arbitrage.

Section Four, as the title implies, is about a bullish future. As an investor, you must accurately assess what the future is going to look like, specifically how it's going to look different than today. Using that appraisal, you must avoid investments that are going to be quantifiably disadvantaged by change.
