The Diary of Arez Smythe with a Silent 'E'

At six years old, Arez Smythe is identified as a dainisa - a magical threat against Australia's safety.

At thirteen, after a meeting with the Prime Minister he can't remember, Arez and all other dainisa are locked away in Re-education Centres for Magical Threats Against Humanity. Marked by purple ribbons and behind the iron bars, any dainisan voice of protest or question is silenced.

As his imprisonment wears on, Arez increasingly considers it his destiny to seek retribution for the crimes against his people.

Three years in, a blonde emo named Lao is thrown in Arez's prison claiming to have the key to ending dainisan imprisonment, and Arez demands to help utilise it. But as the true nature of their imprisonment is brought to light, Arez is increasingly confused about how to save their people and what their place in Australia could be.

And Arez takes it on himself to tell his story, how he wishes it to be told.
