A strong and unwanted experience of being alone is loneliness. When we feel lonely, it may be because we are spending more time alone than we would like to and wish to be with others, or it may be because we are surrounded by people yet feel alone if there is no mutual understanding between us.
Several mental health conditions, such as depression and social anxiety, as well as physical health difficulties like heart disease and stroke, are associated with loneliness and isolation. It's crucial that we strike a balance between socializing and spending time alone, and we should also try to control our thoughts and feelings when we're feeling isolated or lonely.
