The Funnest Puzzle Ever.: An Exercise in Songwriting

If I had to summarize the songwriting process into 4 words those words would be Feel, Think, Shape, Solve. The Challenge is not to come up with something "catchy" but to come up with something honest. You'll never know how good a song can be until you've really tried to recreate it multiple times and that is what I want to encourage you to do here.

This book documents my songwriting process as I create a full song. I explain how I take an initial feeling/emotions and then turn it into a song of only 10 lines, then 30, then 60, then back down to 20 or so (just ball-parking). I explain how I come up with lyrics, which ones I decide to exclude and when is the right time to make more (which is pretty much always). You are encouraged to write your own song with me! I'd want you to try to actually learn the process instead of just reading theory about it.
