Cruelty In Paradise: A Memoir of Nassau Bahamas

$17.52

Arriving in Nassau in 1975 to take up the post of Chief Inspector of the Bahamas Humane Society the author is initially shocked by the scale of animal suffering on the island.
Undaunted and helped by a small motley crew of staff, new found friends and volunteers plus his faithful dog Condor he endeavours to tackle all the challenges facing him.
These include helping the suffering iconic surrey horses, the roaming dogs known locally as potcakes, and the shocking cruelty of the Hobby Horse Race Track.
The workload is relentless and sometimes overwhelming, and the frustrations, emotional strain and and horrors he witnesses soon take their toll, but luckily the good times compensate for the bad.
Join him as he adjusts to the Bahamian way of life, makes friends, explores the island and relaxes on Paradise Island which was then still an oasis of calm.
