Confronted by salient questions THAT his world has no answers for, and which, as well, the same world makes no pretences to proffer any, a young man receives supernatural revelations that soothes these nagging existential questions in his heart. This experience does not end with him, as a movement is born in his home city.
Elsewhere, however, in a nearby city (fictional Medina), a zealous young man sees the movement as the answer to the spiritual lethargy that characterises his home city. Also, his young, energetic self, trained in the ways of his father's faith, is hungry for expression. His opportunity came when the older generation, though receptive of the new way, fails to align with its tenets and, therefore, had to vacate the town.
Young Khalid, however, fails to entrench the faith in his home city to the extent that he had desired. His son, Umar, learning that the use of coercion is a sanctioned means of propagating the faith, moves out of the city for a while to raise a local militia with which he could take the city of Medina. Unknown to him, he had just founded an order of knights who, through their dexterity in the art of swordsmanship, would take the faith across borders that he never envisaged to be within the bounds of possibility.
From Khalid the Patriarch, to Umar the Militant, to Daud the Conqueror, to Mohammed the Obstinate, and then Uthman in West Africa, and then Bobby Khalid in the UK, the goal and the drive is the same. Through their efforts and that of their allies, they are able to keep the flag of the faith flying through the dunes of the Arabian peninsula to Jerusalem, to the horn of Africa, and then sub-Saharan Africa, and finally, to the United Kingdom, extending someday to the lengths and breadths of Europe and the Americas.
Though the actors may have died and their memories now condemned to eventual forgetfulness, the quest and its legacy are very much alive, and the future generations are sure to carry it on...
