Mental Health and Schools Identifying African Americans as Behavioral Risks takes an in-depth look at some of the challenges African American students face in the Educational System. While looking at historical facts in the United States, there is a connection to how some educators may have unintentional biases. African Americans have higher expulsion rates as compared to that of their White counterparts.

As an educator having over ten years working in Special Education and working in the Mental Health Profession, I share some of the observations that can provide support and awareness to these challenges. My goal is to get the conversation going in efforts to develop solutions so that all students can excel.

This book will discuss some of the Historical and Generational Traumas that lead to unequitable practices in schools, and how schools can be more culturally sensitive to the diverse needs of African American students. This book will also address some ways in which parents and teachers can advocate for students and promote equality for all students.
