Eternity in Hell: Is eternal conscious torment biblical?

That's a terrifying statement. We have all heard of it, that people go to hell, but do they go there forever? Isn't God good and gracious? Merciful and kind? Surely the idea of people suffering in hell forever is just something left over from the middle ages, right? Those were the questions that came to me one afternoon as a member of my Church shared his concerns. He followed up his concerns with a challenge, "There is no biblical justification for the concept of eternal conscious torment and I'd love to see you try to prove it." And so began a journey through the Scriptures in seeking to answer the question, "Do people suffer eternal conscious torment in hell?" It's not a fun topic, but it matters!

In this book you won't find philosophical musing, theological pondering, nor apologetical reasoning. You will find the Word of God divided. There is only one way to understand hell, and it is by wrestling with the Scriptures. Only God's Word can reveal to us the truth about hell because only God knows. Regardless of the false notions of people traveling to hell (that you see all over the internet), it's only in the Word that we find the truth of the matter.

This book comprises two major sections. A systematic study of specific texts that address the eternal destiny of the wicked and a consideration of the story of redemption in the light of hell. These two aspects together provide us with a biblical understanding of the destiny of those who fall under the judgment of God.

I am reminded of the words I once heard, "You can only speak about hell if you do it with tears in your eyes". I can honestly say that this book has not been easy to write, but I trust it will be beneficial for many.
