The Happy Place

Captain William Bradbury, valiant air-force pilot and hero of the last war, is dying. Though he appears healthy, in just a moment, everything will change. The world, you see, is dying too, now an overheated, flooded, starving husk of its former beauty. But the Megaverse, a super-intelligent machine, believes that it holds the key to saving both the captain and the planet. All it requires is total obedience. All those over the age of forty are required to give up their lives and live in stasis tubes, plugged into the virtual world of the Megaverse. The facility is called Happy Shores, it is a retirement home of the future that we shall explore today, in the present.
