The hard truth is that as much as we don't have control over the circumstances we are brought up in, our childhood will always spill over into our adult life. When things were less than ideal, we have two options: to either let it consume us or to accept, grow and make the best out of all of it - Erika chose the latter.

Erika grew up in San Francisco in a vibrant Latino community of the mission district in the early 1980s, and things were far from easy. She was raised by a single mom, who was also an immigrant, and she has been through it all, from confronting the ugly face of alcoholism and domestic violence to facing heartwrenching loss and finally finding herself. But it wasn't until she became a mother that she realized the real impact of her past. Even then, what made her face the demons in her closet was the Covid-19 pandemic, which opened up a can of worms she didn't know still existed.
