Black male and female relationships refer to the romantic, familial, or platonic relationships. These relationships can take many forms, including marriages, partnerships, friendships, and family relationships. A variety of factors influence the formation of a particular relationship, including but not limited to individual personalities, gender roles, sexual orientation, and cultural norms.

The historical context for these relationships is rooted in slavery and colonization when black bodies were exploited for their labor and discarded as property without regard for the emotional welfare of its occupants. The psychological effects of this exploitation are still felt today in modern-day marriage, where intimate partnerships are limited to people who can afford to purchase a spouse. This process is perpetuated by the mainstream media, which frames relationships between black men and women as "daunting obstacles" for Black boys and girls.

Relationships between Black women and men can be viewed through a lens of power, development, and agency. The concept of power manifests itself as an appreciation for one's own personal strengths; it is not necessarily an issue of being manipulative or dominating over one's partner.
