Jesus Hates You: A Love Story

James is a failed writer approaching forty, suffering from anxiety and depression, and trapped in a suburb rotting from economic decay. The two most important people in his life are his brother Andrew, a conservative bigot whose hateful views James feels obligated to tolerate because they're family, and his liberal ex-girlfriend Anna, an aspiring artist who dreams of leaving town.

When Anna reveals she left him over his lack of ambition and apathy on social issues, it inspires him to change his life. He dedicates himself to getting in shape, eating right, and writing the great American novel to become a man Anna respects. At the same time he finds himself taking care of his Mother, an ex drug addict turned born again Christian, and trying to keep his sister Sarah from following the same path.

However, Andrew's racist social media posts go viral, jeopardizing James's chance at success as the internet and the people in his life demand he renounce his brother. James is caught in the middle and realizes he has to choose: Turn his back on his brother and hometown for literary success and being a man Anna can love again, or keeping his promise to his mother to stand by family no matter what.
