The protagonist, Ranson Sky, has a successful career as a scientist and falls on hard times. He loses his job. This was his career and identity. He has reached the mandatory age 70 and has been stripped of his title and achievements of the inventor of the third line of robotic Ais of the last decade. Ranson's destiny comes through alien abduction. Ranson is abducted by the Pauldarians and taken to the planet Zenith outside the Milky Way galaxy. Through superior technology, a fountain of youth serum is discovered and taken by Ranson. Ranson escapes and after taking the serum, he poses as another up-and-coming scientist.
