Few Roman poets have driven more Latin students insane than Sextus Propertius. And that's a damned shame. For his poetic heartbeat, too often lost in long lists of gods, is as strong as the best of the rest. He has Catullus' fire and Horace's virtuosity along with Ovid's wit. This jukebox celebration is a tribute to that heartbeat: seven inspired-by performances, not line-by-line renditions. The 'covers' try to remind us that Latin was alive, read and heard by real people who rocked in their own Roman way. Accompanying these are brief commentaries shedding more light on Propertius and the Roman literary scene.
