SOMETHING ABOUT FREEDOM is one day in the life of Miles Beta and his friend Periwinkle who live on a narrowboat on the Rochdale Canal, just outside of LGBTQ+ friendly Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. Both Miles, a vegan anarcho-punk in his fifties, and Periwinkle (or Pez) who is transitioning from male to female, are supporters of Extinction Rebellion due to being deeply concerned about the planet. Regarding the environment, they want the government to act NOW before it's too late, and Miles in particular is deeply concerned that the government will prematurely lift covid-19 restrictions, believing that double masking is the most effective way to go, and too few people are fully vaccinated. At the beginning of the day while Miles is stood in line at a cashpoint, he bumps into Matilda who is back from Canada to attend her aunt's funeral. Tilly, as she prefers to be called, has a doctorate in Ecology and Miles is eager to impress her with his environmental activism. The pair, along with Pez and Frank (otherwise known as Bolts) spend the day chatting about the real concerns facing future generations, though Miles discovers that the future he worries about for others, is his current self.
