The Hillwalker's Journal takes the reader on a journey through the author's recollection of day walks and multi-day walks on some famous (and not so famous) mountains in the UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, Oman, UAE, Iran and Kenya.

The unique aspect of this book is that the author does not pretend to be an ex-SAS adventurer; he gets lost, cold and occasionally scared out of his wits like the rest of us - so readers will find this relatable to their own walking experiences in the hills and mountains. The journal starts with his first mountain adventures on Striding Edge and Skiddaw in the English Lake District. Both occasions were a baptism of fire for a novice walker; but at the same time they created an unquenchable thirst for more mountain adventures.

The journal covers the experiences of 16 mountain walks, ranging from; the trauma of getting lost in the mist near Scafell Pike; being caught up in a storm on the Eiger; freezing from the cold on Mount Kenya and being guided up Kolachal mountain by some friendly Iranians.The joyful moments of hillwalking are tempered by the author's fear of heights and an appalling lack of navigational skills. The factors alone ensure that the author cannot claim to be the new Alfred Wainwright
- but the shortfalls create an interesting catalogue of calamities which leave the reader teetering on the edge of a precipice.
