Brooding and silent, Cal decides we need his protection while we try to reunite with our families. He doesn't fool me. He's hoping that once we realize our families are gone, we'll have no choice but to return with him to Safe Haven Ranch. The folks here insist that this is a fresh start; a new beginning for all of us. But I'm not convinced. Or at least I wasn't. Not until I met Rylee. She might be tough, but even she doesn't realize just how dangerous this new world is. She may not want anything to do with me, but I'm determined to get her and her friends to safety, no matter the cost.

There might just be a little hope left in this world, after all.
