"I was involved in a hostage taking. And there was three of us. Two of my coworkers were taken hostage. I was not. There was three of us, one died, one had to retire from the service, and I'm still here. The other two, they were taken hostage, I was not. Why? We're not quite sure. There was no answer to that one yet. I should have been with the other two. I should not be here. That did cause my first burnout. At the time there were no psychologists available, no professional people available. Like I said earlier in the interview, you fall off the horse you get back on it. That was the way of coping with it. And, I kept everything inside for a long time. I was the last one to see one of my coworkers alive and that was very hard".
