My sister Rosie was always an adventurer. As a young child, she was super naughty. Nowadays she might be put into some kind of ADHD category. She was always seeking the next sensation. Once she found teaching, her vocation became clear. After college, she became an Inner City teacher in London and continued to sharpen her tools in that arena. Once she found Turkey there was no turning back. She sold her flat in London and moved her life to Turkey, where she became quickly fluent in the language. She later founded a school called Vizion in Kumluca, a place where she met her forever loves Ali and Dilgesu. This family became her forever family and taught her how to live and how to love. Though the cancer plagued her on and off for all of their years together, they had many amazing adventures together and lived completely as if they were dying, which we knew she was. Rosie was an inspiration to all who knew her with her marvelous sense of humor and joyous 'why not me attitude'. She called herself a miracle of science, since, by the end of her life, she had tried every cancer treatment possible. Ultimately, the cancer did not get her, her liver failed.
In writing the Bud's story, illustrated with lots of photos, I have endeavored to create a patchwork quilt of her amazing life, filled with her own dialogue and blog, as well as fun conversations and emails, as the modes of communication changed from letter writing and land lines to texting, emailing, blogging and all measure of ways to talk to one another. We would talk every day - even though I live in the US and she in Turkey. The last year of her life I traveled back and forth to Turkey 4-5 times and witnessed first hand the charmed nature of her life. It has been an honor to attempt to write her story, laughing as I do it.
