This was achieved by followings a series of practical steps that includes; collection and identification of the leaves, extraction of the leaves of with 70% ethanol, partitioning of the extracts (using N-hexane DCM and Ethyl Acetate), carrying out the phytochemical screening of the crude extract of Playtycerium stemaria leaf ( test for saponins, Tannins, Anthraquinones, Flavonoids, Alkaloids, Phenols and Cardiac Glycosides where all carried out), and finally evaluation of the anti-oxidant potentials of the leaf extract of Playtycerium stemaria through the estimation of Total Flavonoid content, Total Phenol content, Rapid radical scavenging activity, DPPH Radical scavenging activity and Ion Chelating.
.The results obtained from the extensive research done gives credence to the Ethnobotanical uses of the plant in the management of various conditions linked to oxidative stress.
