Homeless and living in Washington, DC in 2003 after a divorce, Barry Miller finds himself in a shelter in which he is one of the few Caucasian men. The other Caucasian men in the shelter are gay, so he is assumed to be gay as well. He makes gay contacts over the Internet, but one, Ariel from London, becomes a man with whom he develops a strong relationship. After almost ten years, a compassionate caseworker assists him in obtaining a housing voucher and, ultimately, also an apartment. His homeless years come to an end.
