Joan Crawford, born Lucille Fay LeSueur on March 23rd, 190?, San Antonio, Texas, U.S., was a film and TV actress, Broadway performer, dancer & business executive, who began her career as a dancer in traveling theatrical companies before debuting as a chorus girl on Broadway. Joan then signed a movie contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer during 1925, her career spanning 6 decades, multiple studios, and controversies.

Crawford was noted for her diverse roles, playing both sympathetic and unsympathetic characters, giving realistic yet multi-layered performances. Her pictures' genres included contemporary crime, melodramas, film noir, several historical costume dramas, romances, mysteries, musicals, suspense, horror, 3 westerns and more than a dozen comedies, Joan's biggest hits and most memorable performances being in romantic dramas and melodramas. The American Film Institute ranked Crawford 10th on its list of the greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema in 1999.
