What is Communion with Jesus? Communion is an outward physical act, instituted and commanded by Jesus, in which we remember the death of Jesus and what we have received in the finished work of the sacrifice of His body and His blood. The breaking of the bread (as His body given for us) and the drinking of the cup (as His blood shed for us) at the Last Supper was given by Jesus as a prophetic revelation of the sacrificial death and redemptive work He would be bringing to all who believed. We are on this side of the Cross and the finished work of His scourging, crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection and ascension. When we believe Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we enter into that finished work and all the life-transforming blessings that He brings through it. We are in Christ and He is in us. He is our head and we are His body. We have the zoe life of God in us. We are a part of Him and have the fullness of the atoning work of His body and blood-salvation, forgiveness, redemption, righteousness, peace, healing, blessing and eternal life in Him.
