Random Selection for Description
GRAMMAR is the Science of the language, in fact it deals with the changes made in the form of words. So, it teaches us how words are arranged and written in sentences. Thus, the chief aim of teaching Grammar is to enable the students to speak and write correct language. It serves to improve one's knowledge of a language, and should, therefore, be learnt thoroughly.
  1. The Sentence and the Phrase: -
When we say something or express our thoughts to others we use words hence, we use them in groups and in some definite order for the purpose of expressing our thoughts completely; as,
  1. This boy weeps
  2. They have finished their work.
  3. The greatest wrestler of the world.
  4. In the ground
The first and the second groups of words express a complete thought. These are, therefore, called sentences. On the other hand, the third and the forth groups of words do not convey full meaning. These groups of words are not sentence, but are Phrases.
  1. Words and Syllables: -

An articulate sound which has some meaning is called a word, but a Syllable is the part of a word that can be sounded at once.
For Instance, "Differ" is a word but "Dif-fer" has two syllables. Similarly, "Increment" is another word that has three syllables__ "in-cre-ment"
The Syllables are separated from one another by means of a Hyphen (-).
          • Points to remember about Material Nouns:
  1. Material nouns are not countable as they are in the forms of liquid, semi-liquid, solid or gas.
  2. We do not use articles 'a' or 'an' before material nouns.
