Dead deer are an all too common sight on the sides of roads. A startled deer reacts quickly, but the reflexes & instincts which served them well for thousands of years don't work well with cars. The death of a doe can leave an orphaned fawn hidden nearby. Very young ones may starve to death &/or make a meal for a scavenger or predator. If they do wander into sight, they're often hit by another car, but occasionally one defies the odds & survives to be rescued.
