The Forgotten Ones: The Virus

Create a virus they said. One that would affect all of humanity. Create an antidote thereafter, with just enough nanobots to re-engineer the human genome so they would be ready to travel to the Otherworld. One that had already been gifted to them by the Others who had once inhabited Earth several millennia ago... and had left.
But not all of mankind went with the Others, some had been left behind... the aged and infirm, the terminally ill. the murderers and rapists and the violent ones, amongst others. As the Earth died, in an act of desperation, they followed. But something went wrong and they were changed into vile, horrendous creatures in the world they had travelled to and colonised. A dark dismal place quite apart from that the Others had settled. There they waited, biding their time dreaming of revenge.
Eventually, they stumbled upon a dimension in which the Three Sisters of Mist had been unwittingly taken to by the Queen demon Morrigan. Sisters who traversed the dimensions back to Earth, and they followed. Here they remained hidden, attaching themselves to the DNA of ten secluded tribes around the globe. They waited.
Finally, the opportunity presented itself when man created the virus.
June 2016... 'Our time has finally come to take our place amongst the stars. To take our place in the new world amongst our people where we rightfully belong. We will take by force what has been denied to us for centuries, and we will do so with vengeance and without mercy. Yes, my children, we will wreak havoc against those who had forsaken and abandoned us.' Julias Abartach, a 12th generation descendant of the aos si, the apostle of the Church of Eternal Darkness was telling his followers.
The Book, The Forgotten Ones, takes us to the tropical town of Desolation. It tells the story of one of the secluded tribes, the Inbreeders, a grotesquely hideous group within whose DNA the forgotten ones hid. It tells of their cunning and their eventual alliance with Apostle Julias and his followers, another group residing in Desolation. One, as old as time itself.
Caught up in between, was Jenny Taylor and her classmates, a group of University students who were on a camping trip to conduct research for a class project.
Then there was Dorian Barnabas Charles, a nine-year-old lad, and Jenny Taylor's cousin whose grandfather was related to the Sisters of the Mist and whom it was prophesized would be the gatekeeper. His sister, seventeen years old Emily, was destined to lead the way.
