Taylor Made For Coaching: My Journey

A young African-American from Pomona, California who was a star high school athlete, looked for an identify in college. He found his way to Reedley College, Armstrong State University and University of California, Davis. He chased his dream of becoming a major college basketball coach with dedication and tenacity. A prominent teaching career awaited him at the Pomona School District, but young Dedrique started his coaching journey at his alma mater at Davis, then Loyola Marymount, then reunited with his Reedley College roommate and teammate at Portland State, on to Nevada and Arizona State before becoming one of 351 Division 1 head coaches in America, at Cal State Fullerton. There, he won two conference championships, sent players to the professional ranks, developed head coaches, and became an impact leader. Dedrique is a conqueror to young people who are aspiring to get into this ever most ambitious basketball coaching business. He is living the dream and helping others living theirs.

About the author, Henry Tran is an educator by trade with 25 years and worked in the sports industry. He published They Still Call Me Coach, The Orient Sports Express, and Samurai Ball on the Big League Diamond. He is an advocate of recognizing the success of minority athletes.
