I have been traveling the back roads, finding iron hearts chained to starving minds, staring through the broken mirror of America. These people are tired of having their intelligence insulted and tired of feeling guilty about being themselves. When it comes to finding the truth, they are told to believe in fairy tales. Their frustration is futile and human decency is becoming an artifact. As we are being hoodwinked into darkness, I thought I would take some notes. My father asked me what I was making in science. I told him either a low D or a high F. The next day he told me not to think anymore. My mother asked me what I wanted out of life. I told her I wanted to be happy and she just laughed. I came home from college and my father asked me what I was doing in my room. He said after four years of college, you've got a lot of nerve to come back home. So I went to Atlanta to work during the day at a local newspaper and at night as a dishwasher.I used to read my songs to a friend and she said some of them are so dark and full of despair.
