This is how the book came to be: The book is a compilation of the book, Log of the Gee Whiz, which Joy Sorrell, now in her nineties, put together as a self-published coffeetable book in 2008, and various other short stories about her life and experiences that were written years ago but never published. Joy only produced (could afford) enough copies of Log of the Gee Whiz to share with family and close friends, although it was a lovely small hardcover book that surely many more people would have enjoyed. Years later, in 2020, while living at The Manor for Seniors in San Diego, Joy learned of Sunny Baker's new venture to professionally publish the legacies and stories of senior writers who would like to share them with the public at large but who just didn't have the finances, skills, and/or energy to publish their works at a reasonable price. Sunny was presented with Joy's remaining printed copy of the self-published Log of the Gee Whiz along with her yellowed, typewritten short stories on aging erasable paper. Joy asked Sunny if she could publish these in a single volume as a complete book. Her response was, "Yes. I can do that. But I'll have to scan, edit, and format the stories and it might take a little time. I have three books ahead of yours right now." Sunny grinned and stated zealously, "It won't cost you a thing now either. However, the "collective" will get a portion of your royalties after the work is published." (Manor Publishing Collective is the new publishing company Dr. Sunny Baker started in December, 2019.) Although Joy was a little skeptical, she figured, "What do I have to lose? The stories have been languishing unread in my files for years already. And I'm not getting any younger... Joy signed a contract to have her stories published as a complete book. Since she wasn't the only author getting Sunny's attention, it took a few months. You are reading the humorous, insightful, and romantic results now.
