I think that she was in love with my father but that was not unusual. Many of the women that I met there were in love with him. Stan, my father, did not think that love was a commodity but neither did he think that love should be selfishly guarded with taboos for transgressions. We know this, Nieci and me (not I) because we still read his meticulously kept journals. I am not my father, though. I cannot understand why Nieci will not marry me. God, I love that woman!
