The merit of Thomas Aquinas' philosophy is precisely in combining logical and rational thinking with the Christian faith... There is only conflict between philosophy and theology if the former, in an incorrect use of reason, proposes to explain the mystery of religious dogma without the help of faith. He affirmed that human nature consists in the exercise of reason and it is through reason that man submits himself to natural laws. The universally human dominion of reason makes existence divine... In this sense, Thomas Aquinas anticipates the sociological definition that "man is a social being.
