imperfect: a collection of prose and poetry
About the Book
Imperfect is a debut collection of prose and poetry written by self-published author Bhavana Uppalapati. The 106-page collection introduces heavily stigmatized topics such as feminism and mental health and delves into how these struggles can impact a person's day-to-day life. The reader embarks on the journey of a wilting rose who begins to thrive despite the hurts inflicted by others and by herself. Imperfect aims to prove that words can save lives and that no one is alone in their struggle. It can be best represented as a gift to anyone looking for reasons to remain resilient; for anyone needing another reason to survive. If a rose can wilt, die, and bloom once again, so can you.

when my soul withered
and my heart wept
and my mind uprooted
it was these words
that nourished my core
and birthed a rose
in blooming
About the Author
Bhavana Uppalapati is a 24-year-old chemist by day, avid author by night. Hailing from Ontario, Canada, COVID-19 resulted in a quarantine that forced Bhavana to pick up her pen and sketch the words she bottled in for 23 years. As a strong believer that words can save lives, the 24-year-old author birthed her debut book, imperfect, in 2021. When she's not practicing chemistry or spilling words onto pages, Bhavana enjoys melodious music and walks in the summertime rain.
