Letters From Jerusalem: Memoirs of A Palestinian American Ibrahim Saad

The story of the American immigrant is tale as old as time. Well, as old as the 1600's. No matter the time, place, or person, the story of a family who leaves their place of birth in hopes of starting a new life is a classic, with versions throughout the catalogs of human experience. Homer's poem Odyssey was one such tale, detailing the great journey of a man who underwent unimaginable obstacles in his grand pursuit of returning to his home. In general, there are two reasons why a family decides to leave their country and establish new lives in a foreign land; the first stems from a desire to seek new opportunity and a chance to build something greater than what had been established at home, while the second is to flee from persecution, poverty, or oppression. In the case of Palestinians and many other Arab families across the Middle East, fleeing from all three is more common. I have spent the last year interviewing my Grandfather capturing his personal journey through life. From a small village in Palestine to New York City. We discuss his experiences, personal stories, and life lessons.
