As the demand for an all-comprehending principle and power for unity is now pressing upon the world soul this buried idea of the Kingdom of God is becoming a new, living issue. It is experiencing nothing less than resurrection and is becoming the question of questions. The world is hungry for something, for something so universal that it takes in every human relationship and gives purpose and meaning to the whole, and something so intimate that it takes in one's own personal need and meets it with redemption and power by which to live. Is the Kingdom of God that conception? We think it is. And we, therefore, present it as the alternative to both Fascism and Communism.As we have said, the Christian is confused and alarmed. The structure of life is breaking down. We want a new sense of unity and meaning. She has felt that she is being driven to a choice between Communism and Fascism. She has inwardly disliked the choice of either, for while there are things in both to which he is drawn, there are things in both by which she is repelled.It has come as a relief to many to realize that the choice between Communism and Fascism for the Christian is a false choice. He does not need to take either. He can stand on his own ground, announce his own program. It is better than either of the alternatives. The nation need not go Communist or Fascist. It can go Christian. But to go Christian does not mean the usual petty interpretation of being Christian. It must be Christian in the sense of being nothing less than the Kingdom of God on earth.- E.
