The Fifth Dimension is the result of a course on aesthetics and neuroaesthetics created and directed by the architect, composer, artist and philosopher Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta in the years of 1997 and 1998 at the Childhood Education Institute of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, Portugal. They are thirty books in fourteen volumes. This volume deals with two sensory faculties that have dominated Western culture in the last thousands of years: vision and hearing. At the end of each volume, there is a text common to all, with a brief explanation of all volumes. Each volume is a different field in this formidable universe that is the Fifth Dimension. The set of books that make up this project deals with the metamorphosis of the human thought, over thousands of years, going through culinary, the universe of perfumes, of the music, of ideas and the history of art.
