The Baldrus Olymbics: From 'The Adventures of Bearwolf'
A great rhyming story for children 5-8 to explore themes of playing games together, taking part and winning.
One day Bearwolf is watching the moon when he sees a Baldrus jogging by with a fish on a spoon to mark the openinng of the Baldrus Olymbics. When he tells his best friend Fidget about it, she decides that they must go along and ask if they can join in.
However, the Baldrus aren't very keen.
They don't think Bearwolf and Fidget will be any good at the proper sports that the Baldrus play. And they can't see the point in playing if you know you're not going to win.
Eventually the Baldrus agree to let everyone else join in, but they insist on choosing what games to play and they win every one... until Fidget has an idea.
What if we ALL get to pick a sport? Let's see if the Baldrus have fun when they lose...
In this rhyming bedtime story about what's really important when playing games, we're given a chance to see the Baldrus' boasty behaviour for what it is through the eyes of Bearwolf, Fidget and the other characters.
The Baldrus Olymbics is one of seven bedtime stories in verse by D.C.R James in the series "The Adventures of Bearwolf".
