Born in New Zealand, he grew up to become Clinton Windleburn, a tall youth who earned the nickname 'Neddy' which referred to his height. Unhappy with 'Neddy' he begged his family for a different name which would give him some respect. He didn't mind being tall, in fact he enjoyed the attention it gained, so he became 'Horse' via his younger brother. Horse was happy with that, and so the name stuck. Searching for a career path as he grew, the idea of joining the Police Force embedded itself as a noble enough profession, of which he could be proud. As a job, the Police Force was ideal and offered him everything he'd always wanted with 'excitement' at the top of the list. Following the shooting of a close work colleague whilst they were on duty, stung to the core of his very being, Horse accepts a secondment to Hawaii to ease his hurt as much as anything, and joins a 'special' division as head of drug busting operations. Oahu had a huge drug culture, run by a notorious Mafia 'Boss' Michael (Mickey) Cohen. Intrigue, violence and danger stalks Horse every moment of his days and nights, yet finally he and his men prevail, though not without some perilous actions involving explosives, firearms and an amalgam of both luck and guts. Some sadness also injects itself into the story as a counterbalance to the harshness and reality of crime at its most virulent. Footnote: The real Mickey Cohen was a hoodlum and Mafia identity mainly involved with tax evasion more than drugs. He served time in the notorious Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco Bay, where he made friends of influence within the prison population, they helped him make his name as a tough guy.
