Gathering the Golden Poetry is like putting my poem harvest into a storage silo back on my youthful days spent on a farm in Pleasant Valley Township, Gregory County, South Dakota. Those nostalgic golden days of yesteryear shaped my cultural values, cultivated a sense of perspective and proportion, taught me to conserve everything from the earth to the limited food and goods we had as a struggling farm family, and enriched my soul with prayers before each meal. I learned to drive the old Case tractor at the age of six so my dad could use a pitchfork to fill the wagon behind me. My life was filled with family love, exciting things to see and do, creatively making my own toys and playtime scenarios as an only child, and reading the dictionary in the winter months in the evening by the flickering kerosene lamp. Since we did not have electricity on our farm until 1954, I remember the thrill of listening to radio programs and imagining the world beyond the farm.I am a member of the Society of Classical Poets, an organization dedicated to the renaissance of poetry with rhyme and meter. This volume brings my self-published total of poems to 2,400 with the broadest array of subjects from innate humor to comical tales, from love and romance to sensitivity to feelings, from patriotic to religious, from social and political critique to pointed remonstrances and measures for reform of a country and society going astray.Since I have the ability to write at all levels and classes of society, you will find poems appropriate for those considerations, a treasure trove of varied opinions and advice, and subtle messages that include double and triple entendr?s. Word use constitutes the value in this gathering of my golden harvest.
