During my writing phase I enjoyed reading Educated by Tara Westover. The title is a distinctive name describing her love of education revealed her sheltered life. In her early adult life, the ensuing struggles she endured was miraculous. Education helped her scale the dreaded walls of isolation and family waring. I was inspired by my daughter Jessica who invited us to share a weekend in San Francisco discussing the age she had little memory of, her young childhood. Having those frank discussions brought me to my knees a couple of times when I examined my young adult role and my family's challenges. During her memory review, looking at my daughter's early life, led me to tinkering with my own life story, hence my memoir. I concluded the driving force in my life was being faithful to my family's well-being. As one of my best friends and business colleague said, "Look at it like an onion. You peel away one level and you have another one to peel. You keep doing that until you get to the essence, the core. That's when you know you've succeeded." With that perspective I examined my family, social status, religious upbringing, men who inspirational, education and my career in international business. Another love of my life has been writing. I started that endeavor as a fluke in high school, then as personal therapy when I went through my divorce during college. I picked up writing again while traveling to foreign countries, a form of keeping my mind active. Writing my observations eventually led to writing short stories, then novels. Now in the designated stage of life called retirement I have found my new career as a full-time novelist. Looking back on my seventy years I believe I've lived in a good place in my family life like a rock coming from my faith. I have been fulfilled in this good place and faithful times. Recalling my life, I've resolved it was wonderful to be in this place surrounded by the people that love me and I them. I didn't always recognize my own environment since I was not the observer but the doer. So, in my memoir, I have taken the time to reflect and feel comfortable telling my story.
