A Perilous Power

Trevor Blake has always known he has abilities none of his friends have. His parents had warned him never to use those special abilities, but he often did, mostly to pull pranks in school. Now, on the cusp of becoming an adult, a rash act endangers people he loves, and he learns that power can be dangerous if not used wisely. His best pal, Lesley Simonton, has been told that he is also greatly gifted, but Les has never discovered any unusual abilities such as those Trevor boasts of. He and Les set off for distant Port-of-Lords hoping to receive training from the Gifted Community there. The two country boys encounter trouble immediately on reaching the big city, and Trevor's uses of power only make matters worse.

Too proud to ask for help and too quick to judge and to misjudge, Trevor makes mistakes that put others and eventually himself in dire peril. Can he, will he learn to listen to and accept help from others in time to save himself and his friends? Or will his stubborn pride bring disaster upon himself and his friends?

This novel explores the consequences of misuse of power of various sorts and points to what can be accomplished through a wise use of power and at what cost to those who choose to wield power wisely.
