Unassigned on the USS Curtiss at Pearl Harbor, the author's uncle, was not even listed on the crew. On deck December 7, 1941, he had to brush aside the dead gunner to bring down the plane headed toward him. Jesse Keith Milbourne succeeded-giving the crew enough time to get on deck-but lost his arms and legs, living another day or two, though all tombstones were dated December 7. This book could be titled All Hands on Deck! to save the ship.God's people are to love their neighbors as themselves, including being involved publically. There are plenty of examples in the Bible for political and social involvement but not for a system. There are also warnings. Those who want to force Bible-believing people out of government, media, social communication, business, education... hurt especially the poor. When Bible-believing persons have avoided involvement as unspiritual, we wonder why things are falling apart?Jesus did not pray in His High Priestly Prayer that His people would be taken out of the world (John 17:15). Instead believers are be God's redemptive showcase to be salt and light, not mere "ornaments" for the Fellowship. Without spelling out political planks before one can be born again, Jesus has people working "under the radar" when big government programs fail the vulnerable, but believers are leaven for what God is baking in the world.
