Why did the religious elite hate Jesus ? This question I find not only interesting, but troublesome. Society of any age, expects religious leaders to be just and fair minded. They are expected to practice the virtues they preach. As I ponder this question, the word hypocrisy comes to mind. Hypocrisy is a condition that human nature finds a natural abode. The dynamics of this relationship, the conflict of religion v Jesus is relevant today as it has always been. Society is appreciative of Christianity, but only certain parts. Christians are often under the microscope of those who declare boldly they are not Christian. Meanwhile holding Christians to its highest moral and charitable standards according to their ideas of what Christianity is. Human nature has not altered since Jesus fished on the lakes of Galilee. Can the organised structure of what is deemed the church in 2020 be in opposition to Jesus ? Perhaps not so in a militant sense like the Pharisees. In a more subtle way? I judge the answer to be yes.
