Humanity has been decimated, to the point of near-extinction, in this dystopian future. Now, a ruling council takes care of the affairs of the world with little to no technology available to utilize. But this council is cruel, and each iteration seems worse than the last. Emalee Todaro joins the ranks of the council's main enforcement unit, thinking it a most prestigious position when she received the rank of Investigator. During the first few days of her tenure, she makes a discovery - one which changes her life forever. Magic is real. And she is one of a handful of women able to wield it. At the same time, a new group rises from the shadows. One known only as the Nizas. Their desire? To become the next ruling council by any means necessary. Emalee soon finds herself in a fight not only for her life but for the continued existence of the Hysminai - her fellow magic users. The fate of humanity rests in the hands of those who were born to wield the power of the elements.
